The Union Budget for 2021-22 has announced a National Hydrogen Energy Mission (NHM) that will draw up a road map for using hydrogen as an energy source. NHM initiative will capitalise on one of the most abundant elements on earth (Hydrogen) for a cleaner alternative fuel option. In view of contributing to the National Hydrogen Energy Mission, Indian state-owned natural gas company GAIL has started the country’s first hydrogen blending with natural gas in Madhya Pradesh state. The initiative, in line with India’s National Hydrogen Mission, is aimed to establish the techno-commercial feasibility of blending hydrogen in city gas distribution networks and forms part of the plan to grow the use of hydrogen in achieving carbon neutrality. Nirmal’s Hydrogen Blending System has been used for blending the hydrogen in natural gas supplied to the Indore headquartered Avantika Gas, one of GAILs’ joint venture companies with the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation. Nirmal has Rich experience of over four decades in providing high pressure Hydrogen control solutions with hundreds of Installations across India and also internationally. Nirmal Gas Blending systems have also been widely used successfully for many years with wide range of applications. It is expected that this pilot project would help in the creation of a robust standard and regulatory framework in India to cover the aspects of injecting hydrogen into natural gas. This will pave the path for carrying out more similar projects in India. Zero-emission hydrogen is gaining momentum around the world and depending on the source. National Hydrogen Mission aims to cut down carbon emissions and increase the use of renewable sources of energy while aligning India’s efforts with global best practices in technology and targets three-quarters of its 2050 hydrogen production being green.
